I am on an amazing journey
I am listening to every 1994 show in order, mining for gold. Last night of this run. Not sure what to think of the USAir Area shows overall. It could
...
just be the recording quality available for these nights (not good), or the fact that Jer seems to stumble a bit with timing issues (his vocals were outstanding all three nights, however), but I would say skip this and move onto MSG. Great setlists, but no major highlights. Set 1 Highlights: Party-powder version of Picasso Moon. Pretty peppy version of All Over Now. Set 2 HIGHlights: 21-minute Eyes. Women are Smarter. Decent He's Gone>Drums>Space>Last "China Doll."

A few flashes of brilliance
Still remember Jerry shaking off Bobby when Bobby wanted to start the next verse of Women are Smarter. At the time it looked and felt like Jerry had actually

caught a decent groove, and he just didn't want to let it go. As for the rest of the show, the first set is better played than I remembered. A bizarre mix of weak Bobby tunes [Picasso Moon. Easy Answers], Phil's new entry [If the Shoe Fits], the always peppy All Over Now, and Jerry hitting all cylinders on three favorites [Jack-A-Row, High Time, and Deal]. But for the most part, decently played. Even Picasso Moon is fast paced and Jerry is well up in the mix. Second set had its moments. Jerry had a few spots in Eyes where he was in sync. But all in all, it was a long and weak version. As mentioned, Jerry was into Women are Smarter, and it was a decent version of a tune I could usually have lived without. Samba was Samba. A decent tune if the first set didn't have Easy Answers and If the Shoe Fits. He's Gone is a long time favorite [since high school in the early to mid-70's - - class of '76 even if I had zero high school spirit!!]. Jerry stayed on stage for drums and noodled. Nothing special, but it was obvious he wanted to be playing. China Doll is yet another long time fav. Always dripping with emotion. Sugar Mag was okay. Thought the version in Boston a week or so earlier blew it away. Then again, that whole show blew this one away. Though both had week encores. Which leads me to Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.. Absolute train wreck. Would have preferred the always weak and cheesy I Fought the Law from the Boston show. What's weird is that was the only sign of melt down all night. Anyway..... Had a blast with college buddies. 4th row center. Nothing like the disaster that was summer '95. But still a mediocre show at best. Three stars for Jerry being engaged enough to counter balance some bad Bobby tunes, the requisite Vince tune, If the Shoe Fits, and the train wreck LSD.
